Transportation Savings Accounts

A growing number of companies offer Workplace Transportation Accounts (also known as a Commuter Savings Accounts or Commuter Expense Reimbursement Accounts). These accounts offer employees the opportunity to contribute pre-tax dollars that can be used to pay for public transportation (including vanpool) or parking expenses incurred getting to and from work. (Note that fuel, bridge and tunnel fees and highway tolls are not qualifying expenses.) One major perk of these accounts is that since the funds are taken from your paycheck
pre-tax, your taxable income is reduced. Reminder: The monthly contribution limits set by the IRS for 2017 are $255 per month.
