The 411 on EAP

Many employers offer Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) as an additional support option for employees and their families. EAPs help address those needs through free and confidential assessments.

Issues EAPs can address are wide and varied. They can include:

  • Marriage
  • Finances
  • Substance or alcohol abuse
  • Family
  • Stress
  • Grief
  • Psychological disorders

Short-term counseling, referrals and follow-up services for these problems are a few ways EAPs can help you. Some EAPs even work with their organizations to prevent workplace violence and deal with trauma and emergency response situations. Consider engaging your company’s EAP at any time, but especially if your work performance becomes negatively affected by a personal situation. Check your plan to find out if your employer offers an EAP and find out what is available to you.
