Integrative Medicine

Why treat only one specific health problem when you could be treating your overall physical and mental health instead? This is the goal of integrative medicine — by using a variety of resources from both traditional and alternative medicine, you’re more likely to be able to improve your wellbeing with a health plan that’s customized to your needs!
People of all ages can benefit from integrative medicine. Its popularity has been on the rise in recent years, as many Americans have been including alternative treatments such as acupuncture and chiropractic care alongside traditional treatments such as medications. A few examples of conditions that can be treated through integrative medicine include:
  • Asthma. Traditional inhalers can help keep symptoms under control, while deep breathing exercises (which may be learned in yoga) could help avoid hyperventilating during an asthma attack.
  • Depression. There is a wide range of beneficial treatments that could help address depression, such as counseling sessions, medication and/or acupuncture.
  • Back Pain. Traditional medical care through prescription painkillers or surgery can be complemented through chiropractic manipulations and massage therapy to help treat back pain.
If you find that some of the alternative treatments help improve your condition, you may save yourself money in the long run by avoiding a costly hospital stay or procedure. Be sure to consult your physician to discuss an integrative medicine plan that’s right for you!
